It’s possible to get to and see the whole of Salobreña on foot. In the old town
the 10th century Moorish castle ruins dominate the top of the hill
and these are a popular tourist attraction for visitors from all around. Views
in all directions are superb – and it is only a five minute walk from Casa
Piedra.
On the way to the castle you will pass our near viewpoint looking along the
coast towards Málaga; then you come to the 16th century church and
the old town square which houses the interesting Salobreña Museum. The narrow
streets and steep staircases, the white-washed houses clinging to the cliff top
and the pretty flowers and creepers which abound, all add up to a feast of
Andalucian wonder.
The commercial town, full of bustle is down below, and the main streets lead to
the beach and promenade – a 12 minute walk down from Casa Piedra (but probably a
bit more coming back up).
The beach is a combination of sand and stones which makes for comfortable
sunbathing. The many bars and restaurants line the beachfront and they offer a
tremendous choice of eating and drinking to suit all pockets.
We provide a
comprehensive pre-arrival information pack which gives details of our favourite
bars and restaurants both in the old town and down below. In that pack we also
suggest how you can use the local bus service to explore Salobreña before you
venture out on foot.
